Prophetic Tarbiyah is a spiritually grounded, God-centered approach to education and behavior formation that mirrors the nurturing methodology of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It emphasizes emotional connection, gradual development, and holistic transformation — over punishment or control.
While working with children and youth at multiple schools across the U.S. and abroad as teachers, Principals, and counselors, the founders of Muraqaba noticed a major deficiency in the modern schooling systems. Most Islamic schools today rely on disciplinary models rooted in secular behaviorist thinking or outdated punitive systems — zero-tolerance policies, assertive discipline, PBIS, reward-based systems. These approaches were not designed with an Islamic worldview in mind. They do not integrate behavior, belief, and identity through a God-centered lens. They attempt to repair or regulate. But they do not spiritually elevate. The result is a gap between faith and character, knowledge and action, and transactional versus transformational education. And our students — and their relationship with Allah — are paying the price.
The word tarbiyah (تربية) literally means nurturing or upbringing. In the Islamic tradition, it refers to the comprehensive development of a child's mind, body, and soul through loving, gradual, and spiritually conscious nurturing — rooted in the character of the educator and the guidance of the Qur'an and Sunnah.

We emphasize teacher spiritual and emotional wellness as the foundation for student behavioral regulation and character development, equipping educators with self-awareness, presence, and God-consciousness so tarbiyah begins within before reaching the student.

Experiential character development — moving beyond lectures and content transmission to lived, embodied tarbiyah
Tarbiyah begins within the Murabbi before it ever reaches the child. Before we can nurture the souls of those in our care, we must first do the work of developing our own God-consciousness, character, and presence. This is where the journey starts — with you.
